{"id":192,"date":"2017-05-18T14:05:48","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T04:05:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.decyp.tas.gov.au\/?page_id=192"},"modified":"2023-09-21T15:46:11","modified_gmt":"2023-09-21T05:46:11","slug":"get-involved-in-your-school-community","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/ja\/for-families\/get-involved-in-your-school-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Get involved in your school community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Being involved adds richness to your child\u2019s school experience and sends a clear message that their education is important to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"block-card block-card--wp block-card--horizontal\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/ja\/about-us\/community-and-engagement\/school-communities\/\" class=\"block-card__inner block-card__inner--link\" target=\"\">\n                    <div class=\"block-card__image\" style=\"background-image:url(https:\/\/decyp-dev-ionata-com.assets.ionatahosting.net\/uploads\/2023\/07\/201906_cfc-136jpg_48621875612_o-1024x684.jpg)\" ><\/div>\n        \n        <div class=\"block-card__content\">\n                            <span class=\"tag\">\n                    Community                <\/span>\n            \n                            <h2 class=\"card-title\">\n                    <div class=\"card-title__inner\">\n                        <span class=\"card-title__text\">\n                            School Associations                        <\/span>\n                    <\/div>\n                <\/h2>\n            \n                            <p>Contribute to helping learners succeed and provide an opportunity to be actively involved and engaged in the school.<\/p>\n                    <\/div>\n\t<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You can choose how you become involved, based on your own particular interests, availability and skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"block-emphasis\">\n\t<div class=\"block-emphasis__inner\">\n        <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<p>Here are some suggestions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>talk with your child \u2013 ask \u2018How was school today?\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>regularly read with your child at home<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>check your child\u2019s homework every night and ask them questions about it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>limit TV viewing on school nights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>regularly discuss your child\u2019s progress with their teacher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>visit your child\u2019s classroom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>volunteer for parent help \u2013 you can help in the classroom with activities such as reading<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>volunteer to help out with school activities such as open days, working bees, school fairs and the canteen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>read the school newsletter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>join the school\u2019s parent group<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>go along to a School Association meeting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>if they have one, check your school\u2019s website regularly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>attend school social occasions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"parent-groups\">Parent groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many schools also have groups specifically for parents and carers, such as a parents and friends group (sometimes called the P&amp;F). This is a great way to meet other parents and find out how you can contribute to your school community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A member of the parent group will also usually be on the School Association Committee, so that any issues raised can be brought to the attention of the School Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tasso.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tasmanian Association of State School Organisations<\/a>&nbsp;(TASSO) is the peak body representing all Tasmanian Government school parents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask at your school or contact the Tasmanian Association of State School Organisations on (03) 6243 7718.<br>or email <a href=\"mailto:info@tasso.org.au\">info@tasso.org.au<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"school-canteens\">School Canteens<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Parent volunteers are an important part of school canteens and provide a great opportunity to get involved in your child\u2019s school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information and advice on running school canteens and school canteen accreditation, visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tascanteenassn.org.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tasmanian School Canteen Association website.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"libraries-tasmania\">Libraries Tasmania<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Volunteers provide support in a range of Libraries Tasmania services and programs in Libraries Tasmania sites, including online access centres.
