They are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>physical harm or touching (direct or indirect contact, intervention or restraint)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>psychological harm by way of inappropriate verbal or unauthorised communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sexualised harm by way of sexual abuse, including grooming<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important that you take notice of any unusual or suspicious behaviour. If something makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, you should discuss this with the Strong Families Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line (ARL) on 1800 000 123.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-223212\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>Inappropriate relationships between adults and children and young people<\/strong><\/h2><div id=\"ac-223212\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Some behaviours which may seem motivated by good intentions should be avoided because it can increase the risk of harm to children and young people. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>inviting children and young people to your home or attending their home without an appropriate reason and without the consent of their parent\/carer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>attending parties or regularly socialising with children and young people that aren\u2019t members of your family<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>transporting a child or young person in a car without an appropriate reason and prior approval from a parent\/carer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>communicating with a child or young person through SMS or social media without an appropriate reason and without their parent\/carer\u2019s knowledge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-223213\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>Concerning or grooming behaviour<\/strong><\/h2><div id=\"ac-223213\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Behaviour that could be interpreted as grooming or an intention to groom is unacceptable and is an offence under the Tasmanian&nbsp;<em>Criminal Code Act 1924<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look out for signs that someone is trying to spend more time with a child or trying to get close to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grooming behaviour may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>singling out a child or young person for special treatment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>spending more time with a child or young person without an appropriate reason<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>giving gifts or special favours to the child or young person<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>allowing the child or young person to overstep accepted rules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>asking the child or young person to keep secrets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>increasing the type or frequency of physical contact with a child or young person.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not just children and young people who can be groomed.&nbsp; An abuser might also try to groom their target\u2019s family or support networks by befriending them and building trust to make them believe they have their best interests at heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abusers are often known to the child or young person, or their family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abusers will try to mislead people who are close to the child and are likely to deny anything inappropriate has occurred when challenged about their behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t ignore behaviour that could be grooming or abuse. <a href=\"https:\/\/tellsomeone.tas.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tell someone<\/a>.
