This is particularly important for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must ensure, as much as possible, that children and young people do not lose connection with their family, community and culture. It is important to work with the Care Team on ways to support the child or young person to make or maintain these important connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"haircuts-and-piercings\">Haircuts and piercings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can approve haircuts, including hair style changes and colouring, and body piercings, in line with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.police.tas.gov.au\/uploads\/Tasmania-Police-Tattooing-Body-Modification-and-Body-Piercing-of-Youths-Poster-web.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tasmania Police, Tattooing Body Modification and Body Piercing of Youths Poster (PDF, 152KB)<\/a>, and as long as the procedure is safe and is not permanent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must consider what is age appropriate, the views of the child or young person, whether there are any school limitations on hair styles, colours and body jewellery, and if the procedure can be guaranteed to be safe.
