Students are asked to respond to the simple question \u2018what matters?\u2019 and are free to express their views on any matter they care about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part writing exercise, part civics and citizenship activity,&nbsp;<em>What Matters?<\/em>&nbsp;is the perfect opportunity to empower students to raise their voices on issues that are important to them. To know that their perspectives are valuable, no matter their age, background or viewpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"national-awards-and-prizes\"><strong>National awards and prizes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>What Matters?<\/em>&nbsp;writing competition is run by the Whitlam Institute (within Western Sydney University).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are some amazing prizes to be won for students and their schools. Prizes are awarded for Overall Winner, Category Awards and Sponsored Awards. Check out the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitlam.org\/what-matter-prize-pool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">What Matters? prize pool<\/a> on the Whitlam website&nbsp;for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discover the 2023 shortlisted entries by accessing the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitlam.org\/what-matters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Whitlam Institute\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tasmanian-state-awards-and-prizes\"><strong><strong>Tasmanian State Awards and Prizes<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tasmanian students who enter the national competition are automatically entered into&nbsp;<em>What Matters? Tasmania<\/em>.
