The Child Safety Service talk to you, your carers and your parents. They then go to court, as a judge has to decide what happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s important you tell your care team if you think it\u2019s a good idea or not. If you don\u2019t really understand what this could mean for you, please ask questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the transfer of guardianship, your carer will organise contact with your family. Sometimes, you may choose not to have contact with your birth family, for different reasons. For example, some children don\u2019t know who their birth parents are, and some choose not to see them (and that\u2019s ok, too).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-do-guardians-do\">What do guardians do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A guardian has these responsibilities, until the child turns 18 years old:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>take care of you<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>has parental responsibility for all aspects of the child\u2019s care (just like a parent!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>makes all decisions about the child\u2019s care, wellbeing and development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>looks after the child\u2019s Will.<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How does it work?
