{"id":1135,"date":"2017-06-20T10:16:58","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T00:16:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.decyp.tas.gov.au\/?page_id=1135"},"modified":"2023-09-21T14:24:50","modified_gmt":"2023-09-21T04:24:50","slug":"allergies-asthma","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/ms\/wellbeing\/health-and-physical-care\/medical-conditions\/allergies-asthma\/","title":{"rendered":"Students with allergies and asthma"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"block-emphasis\">\n\t<div class=\"block-emphasis__inner\">\n        <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"key-information\">Key information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is important for you to inform the school if your child has any asthma or allergies \u2013 not just those diagnosed as severe or food allergies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The school needs:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anaphylaxis\/Asthma Action Plan developed by a medical practitioner<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medication in original packaging<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completed Authorisation to administer student medication form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"where-to-start\">Where to start<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your child has asthma and\/or an allergy, you should discuss this with your child\u2019s teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your child has a severe allergy and is at risk of anaphylaxis you should notify the school at enrolment, or as soon as a diagnosis is made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"for-you-and-your-child\">For you and your child<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Every student who is known to be at risk of anaphylaxis should have an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allergy.org.au\/hp\/anaphylaxis\/ascia-action-plan-for-anaphylaxis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anaphylaxis action plan | ASCIA<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students with asthma should have an <a href=\"https:\/\/asthma.org.au\/treatment-diagnosis\/asthma-action-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Asthma action plan | Asthma Australia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their medical practitioner should complete the required plan before your child starts school or as soon as the condition is diagnosed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medical action plans and medical management plans should be reviewed and updated in line with national peak body recommendations and\/or when your child\u2019s condition or medical needs change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need to provide the school with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>any medication needed to treat your child\u2019s asthma\/anaphylaxis in its original packaging <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the completed <a href=\"https:\/\/tasedu.sharepoint.com\/sites\/intranet\/DoE%20Form%20Library\/Administration-of-Medication-Authorisation-Forms.pdf\">Authorisation to administer student medication form (PDF, 207KB)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-to-expect-from-your-school\">What to expect from your school<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The school will consult with you and health professionals to develop an individual anaphylaxis management plan. The school will keep this to inform relevant staff of your child\u2019s individual asthma\/anaphylaxis needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The school will use this information to ensure your child\u2019s needs are met during class activities and excursions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"where-can-i-get-more-information\">Where can I get more information?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Talk to your child\u2019s teacher, principal or school health nurse<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/allergyaware.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Allergy Aware<\/a>; a hub for allergy aware resources and support for schools and children\u2019s education and care services to prevent and manage anaphylaxis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/allergyfacts.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Allergy Facts<\/a>; a support organisation helping individuals and carers in managing allergy and the risk of anaphylaxis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nationalallergystrategy.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The National Allergy Strategy<\/a>; a partnership between the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) and Allergy &amp; Anaphylaxis Australia (A&amp;AA).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/ck\/a?!&amp;&amp;p=e1cd21cebb6b7df8JmltdHM9MTY4NTIzMjAwMCZpZ3VpZD0yOTQzZDE2ZS1lMzA1LTZiYzYtMmQ2My1jMzg3ZTIxNTZhMzMmaW5zaWQ9NTE4OQ&amp;ptn=3&amp;hsh=3&amp;fclid=2943d16e-e305-6bc6-2d63-c387e2156a33&amp;psq=asthma+australia&amp;u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly9hc3RobWEub3JnLmF1Lw&amp;ntb=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Asthma Australia<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where to start If your child has asthma and\/or an allergy, you should discuss this with your child\u2019s teacher.
