{"id":41518,"date":"2026-06-02T09:16:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T23:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/?page_id=41518"},"modified":"2026-06-02T09:28:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T23:28:16","slug":"reference-guide-for-carers-learning","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/ms\/safe-children\/out-of-home-care-in-tasmania\/who-can-say-ok-in-tasmania-reference-guide-for-carers\/reference-guide-for-carers-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"Reference guide for carers &#8211; learning"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"block-emphasis\">\n\t<div class=\"block-emphasis__inner\">\n        <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"key-information\">Key information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are various activities that a carer can provide consent for, so long as they are within Tasmania.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Child Safety Service must enrol the child or young person into school, and must approve any school excursions or activities that involve travelling outside of Tasmania.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carers must inform the Child Safety Service of any overnight school excursions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carers can support and teach young people to drive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"school-based-activities-and-excursions\">School-based activities and excursions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Child Safety Service must enrol the child or young person into school and must approve all school excursions or activities that involve travelling outside of Tasmania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where School Validation Forms are sent to you at the beginning of each school year, you can sign and provide consent for children and young people for decisions such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>school camps, excursions and activities (within Tasmania)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>school-based activities and sports outside of regular school hours, and outdoor education activities (within Tasmania)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>school photos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>use of photos by the school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>graduation dinners and socials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>allergy forms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>school science laboratory forms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You must inform the Child Safety Service of any overnight school excursions, dates and the location. You must always have a plan with the child or young person so that they can contact you or another safe person if they change their mind or need support at any time during overnight excursions or camps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"learning-to-drive\">Learning to drive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once a young person is 15 years and 11 months, they can complete the learner driver knowledge test and apply for their Learner Driver Licence. Where needed, you can provide support for the young person with this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can teach the young person to drive (this includes taking the young person for driving lessons and signing permission forms for the young person if they are taking professional driving lessons).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1
