Developed in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ynot.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Youth Network of Tasmania<\/a>, the guide provides practical advice, tools and resources to support better outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/ms\/about-us\/strategies-and-frameworks\/participation-and-empowerment-guide\/\">Access the guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-452910\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">What is participation and empowerment?<\/h2><div id=\"ac-452910\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participation and empowerment is one of DECYP\u2019s strategic priorities and is about supporting our organisational belief that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"block-emphasis\">\n\t<div class=\"block-emphasis__inner\">\n        <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018The rights of children and young people are upheld in all that we do, particularly the right to an education, to influence decisions that affect them, and to be safe from harm\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DECYP has developed a Participation and Empowerment Strategy to help us do our part in upholding children\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We need to put children and young people\u2019s rights at the centre of all the work we do and ensure that diverse voices are heard equally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is about children, young people, parents and carers having a greater say in the design of the department\u2019s services and supports so that they better meet their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This priority will help to bring DECYP\u2019s Strategic Plan to life so that children are \u2018<em>known<\/em>, <em>heard and included<\/em>\u2019 and support us to work in \u2018<em>strong partnerships with children, young people, families and community<\/em>.\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-will-we-achieve-this\">How will we achieve this?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During 2025, we will \u2018walk our talk\u2019 and do this work by partnering with children, young people, parents, carers and the DECYP workforce. This work is summarised below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The work ahead is about deeply listening to children, young people and the communities we serve, and connecting in ways that supports them to feel empowered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js is-open\" data-initially-open=\"true\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-452911\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Internal to DECYP<\/h4><div id=\"ac-452911\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Goal&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; Bring our DECYP belief to life in the work we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; Build the child\u2019s rights focus in DECYP through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Learning<\/strong> more about children and young people\u2019s rights and making sure we uphold them in our work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Creating<\/strong> resources and providing support that guides everyone in DECYP to seek, listen and give influence to child, youth and community voices in a consistent and safe way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sharing <\/strong>good examples of existing child-centred work being done in DECYP to include children, young people, parent and carer voices.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js is-open\" data-initially-open=\"true\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-452912\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">External to DECYP<\/h4><div id=\"ac-452912\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Goal<\/strong> &#8211; Create the building blocks DECYP needs for the participation and empowerment work to further develop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; With external partnerships to co-create:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A&nbsp;policy position and best practice guide&nbsp;<\/strong>to increase opportunities for children, young people and adults to share their views in a safe and ethical way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A&nbsp;model of advisory groups&nbsp;<\/strong>to inform decisions that DECYP leaders make.
