Thousands of children and young people across Tasmania will soon embark on countless adventures as part of this year\u2019s expanded Premier\u2019s Reading Challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s challenge starts on 26 June and runs until 1 September.   For the first time, the Challenge has been extended to include older students from Years 7-10.  It is very exciting that more students can take part than ever before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Premier Rockliff, Education, Children and Youth Minister Roger Jaensch, and Reading Champion Dr Lucy Christopher joined students at Kingston High School on Thursday to talk about their personal reading challenge this year.  

The Challenge promotes the importance of reading and encourages families to be more involved with supporting reading at home. 

Supporting your child to read is one of the most powerful things you can do to foster a love of reading – developing skills that will set them up for life.

Participants are encouraged to pick something that interests and excites them- picture books, short stories, poems or non-fiction books in any language can be part of the Challenge.

There is lots of ideas and information available on the Reading Challenge website, so head over to https:\/\/www.decyp.tas.gov.au\/premiers-reading-challenge\/<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Premier also encouraged students to visit their school or local libraries as part of the challenge.

\u201cIf you can\u2019t get to a library, visit www.libraries.tas.gov.au<\/a> to experience the many reading resources on offer \u2013 from books, e-books, comics and magazines and more,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
