{"id":1214,"date":"2017-06-20T11:58:26","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T01:58:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.decyp.tas.gov.au\/?page_id=1214"},"modified":"2023-09-08T16:14:09","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T06:14:09","slug":"aboriginal-students","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/vi\/learning\/aboriginal-education-services\/aboriginal-students\/","title":{"rendered":"How we support Aboriginal students"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-is-provided\">What is provided?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"block-emphasis\">\n\t<div class=\"block-emphasis__inner\">\n        <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<p><strong>Aboriginal students receive:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an inclusive approach to teaching and learning that values their community and culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>support through targeted programs and through Aboriginal workers attached to some schools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>access to specific Aboriginal career pathway programs and opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a curriculum inclusive of Tasmanian Aboriginal histories and cultures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"for-your-child\">For your child<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All Aboriginal students will have a Learning Plan. This plan will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>be developed in partnership with you, your child, and their teacher(s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>assist the school in understanding how to build on community and cultural connections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>identify specific goals for learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"for-you\">For you<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You are welcome to assist with a range of activities including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>excursions and in-class support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sharing your stories and background<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>involvement in parent organisations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>joining the Aboriginal Sharers of Knowledge (ASK) Program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"be-involved-in-your-childs-school\">Be involved in your child\u2019s school<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make yourself known to the principal and teachers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask about forums for Aboriginal parents and community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If your school or Child and Family Learning Centre employs an Aboriginal education field worker then talk to them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aboriginal Early Yearly Liaison Officers \u2013&nbsp;<em>Early Years<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aboriginal Education Workers \u2013&nbsp;<em>Primary and Secondary<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aboriginal Education Officers \u2013 <em>Primary and<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Secondary<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"early-learning\">Early Learning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Schools and Child and Family Learning Centres offer <a href=\"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/vi\/learning\/early-years\/\">early years programs<\/a>. This supports families and young children\u2019s learning and transition into school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include birth to 5 initiatives, <em>Launching into Learning and <\/em>pre-Kinder sessions.
