Numeracy skills help us to develop thinking and solve problems. It allows us to make sense of activities like cooking, reading a bill or timetable and playing games or sport. Numeracy is the ability to use mathematics with confidence for learning, life and work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"numeracy-plan-for-action\">Numeracy Plan for Action<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Improving numeracy performance has been prioritised as a key departmental goal, with the Plan outlining a number of priorities and actions to achieve this. By working to the plan, we will drive improvement in an incremental and sustainable way over the next five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of the <a href=\"https:\/\/documentcentre.education.tas.gov.au\/_layouts\/15\/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=TASED-1629159896-13971\">Numeracy Framework (PDF, 181KB)<\/a>&nbsp;is to provide our learners with the skills and confidence in numeracy to successfully participate in learning, life and work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/documentcentre.education.tas.gov.au\/_layouts\/15\/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=TASED-1087178304-4092\">Plan for Action (PDF, 3.6MB)<\/a> identifies four system priorities with five explicit actions. It has been developed through extensive engagement and collaboration and informed by data and research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The priorities that have been identified across the department, include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>attention to the importance of numeracy skills and understanding across all ages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>quality teaching of mathematics to improve numeracy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>valid and reliable measures of impact and learner growth in Mathematics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>strengthen and expand the numeracy teaching workforce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Numeracy is a high priority for the department.
