{"id":10772,"date":"2019-11-14T12:02:34","date_gmt":"2019-11-14T01:02:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.decyp.tas.gov.au\/?page_id=10772"},"modified":"2023-09-08T16:14:06","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T06:14:06","slug":"education-and-training-after-year-10","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/zh\/learning\/career-pathways\/education-and-training-after-year-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Education and Training after Year 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In preparation for students\u2019 education and training after Year 10, we have developed some tips and resources to assist parents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>By staying engaged in education and training, young people will have greater opportunities in learning, life and work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whatever a young person wants to do in life, there is a pathway to take them there. It all starts with education.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is more than one way for young people to get where they want to be \u2013 but dropping out of education and training isn\u2019t one of them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <em>Education Act<\/em> requires young people to stay in education and training until they finish Year 12, turn 18 or achieve a Certificate III. These conditions apply unless they have an exemption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-are-the-education-and-training-options-for-young-people-after-year-10\">What are the education and training options for young people after Year 10?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A young person can choose any of the following education and training options, or a combination of these options if the provider\/s allow:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Years 11 and 12 at any government or non-government school or college, or a tertiary provider. This may include an Australian School-based Apprenticeship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification through any registered training organisation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an apprenticeship or traineeship with an employer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unless otherwise approved, young people will need to participate full time in education and training. They should attend the scheduled school\/training hours and following the provider\u2019s attendance policy for any absences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Young people can talk to their school or education provider about combining education and training options. They can also request approval for part-time education and training.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"when-can-a-young-person-leave-education-and-training\">When can a young person leave education and training?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A young person can stop participating in education and training once they meet one of these leaving requirements:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>they complete Year 12<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>they complete a Certificate III<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>they turn 18.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Before 2020, a young person could leave education and training when they reached 17 years of age.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Young people can have an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/documentcentre.education.tas.gov.au\/_layouts\/15\/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=TASED-1797567314-8505\">exemption<\/a>&nbsp;granted if they have full-time employment of at least 35 hours a week. They can get an exemption for other specific individual circumstances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-happens-if-a-young-person-changes-options-or-leaves-education-and-training-early\">What happens if a young person changes options or leaves education and training early?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Young people who stop participating will receive support to move back into a learning program that is a good fit for them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education and training providers record and share ongoing participation information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This information includes if a young person has changed their education and training options.
