Schools listen to children and young people to plan action, and it guides Department planning and decision making.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We support teachers to promote positive student wellbeing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We deliver programs across all Government schools to support the wellbeing of all students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Wellbeing is influenced by what happens outside the school gates, and we can only succeed by working together with students, families and our wider school communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information email&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:wellbeing.unit@decyp.tas.gov.au\">wellbeing.unit@decyp.tas.gov.au<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-six-wellbeing-domains\">The six wellbeing domains<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy\u202fsupports the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/documentcentre.education.tas.gov.au\/_layouts\/15\/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=TASED-1087178304-5464\">Tasmanian Child and Youth Wellbeing Framework (PDF, 1.4MB)<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It adopts the six wellbeing domains defined by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aracy.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Australian Research Alliance for Children\u202fand Youth<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-302290\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"57\" height=\"53\" src=\"https:\/\/d2dl272p2irud0.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/loved-safe-valued-icon.png\" alt=\"\"> Loved, Safe and Valued<\/h3><div id=\"ac-302290\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<div class=\"block-emphasis\">\n\t<div class=\"block-emphasis__inner\">\n        <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<p>Objective: Learners have positive relationships and connections with others, feel safe and are respected in their learning environments<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Learners experience many challenges throughout their lives.&nbsp; They need the tools to help them feel safe in their world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These challenges\u202fmay include:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>being\u202fbullied by a peer&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>being impacted by trauma&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lacking confidence&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>family instability.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important for children and students to have positive and trusted relationships in their education setting. We have a shared responsibility to ensure that students receive this support.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"support-for-students\">Support for Students&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>School Social Workers&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School Psychologists&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inclusive Practice Team&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interagency Support Team&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School Health Nurses&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School Wellbeing Officers and Chaplains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School Support and Wellbeing Teams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"curriculum-resources-and-professional-learning\">Curriculum resources and professional learning&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u202fare many curriculum\u202fprograms and resources\u202fto help\u202four students feel loved, safe and valued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/respectfulrelationships.education.tas.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Respectful Relationships Education<\/a>\u202f\u2013 Resources to teach students about respectful relationships.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/respectfulrelationships.education.tas.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bullying Stops Here<\/a>\u202f\u2013&nbsp;this webpage provides resources for educators, students, parents and carers. Content includes: articles, videos, webinars, infographics, teacher tools, and student leadership resources.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/studentwellbeinghub.edu.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Wellbeing Hub<\/a>\u202f\u2013 this is an Australian Government website. The resources available are underpinned by the&nbsp;<em>Australian Student Wellbeing Framework.&nbsp;<\/em>They support the creation of learning communities that:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>promote student wellbeing&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>encourage respectful relationships.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esafety.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Office of the eSafety\u202fCommissioner<\/a>\u202f\u2013 a portal for:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>school-based online safety resources&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reporting online abuse (image-based abuse, cyberbullying and offensive and illegal online content).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esmart.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eSmart<\/a>\u202f(Alannah and Madeline Foundation) \u2013 offers a range of educational tools for:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>principals (tackling bullying and cyberbullying)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>teachers (lesson plans and training)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>students (classroom activities and active learning)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>parents (how to see the signs and get help)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/beyou.edu.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Be You<\/a>\u202f\u2013 a national initiative supporting children\u2019s and young people\u2019s mental health. It provides educators with professional learning, resources, and strategies.&nbsp;&nbsp; Be You consultants are available to support implementation of Be You within education settings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.workingitout.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Working it Out<\/a>\u202f\u2013 Tasmania\u2019s gender, sexuality, and intersex status support service. It offers a range of services including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>individual support&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>support groups&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>support in schools&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>professional learning.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/staychatty.com.au\/programs\/schools-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stay ChatTY Schools Program<\/a>\u202f\u2013\u202f a Tasmanian mental health awareness and suicide prevention program.&nbsp; Year 9 to 12 students in eligible schools can access the program. Children and students are able to explore, experiment and engage in their learning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social and emotional wellbeing plays an important role in education. We know that effective social and emotional skills have a positive impact on learning and achievement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"support-for-students\">Support for students&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>School Social Workers&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School Psychologists&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Speech and Language Pathologists&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inclusion and Diversity Services&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inclusive Practice Team&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School Health Nurses&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a id=\"aboriginal-education-services\">Aboriginal Education Services&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Aboriginal Education Services works with schools and the Department to:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>enable all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to reach their learning potential&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>help all learners understand and value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>build connections between our learning environments and the families of Aboriginal learners.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b<strong>The Orb<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorb.tas.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Orb<\/a>\u202fis a publicly available website. It assists the teaching of Tasmanian Aboriginal Histories and cultures, and is suitable for all year groups.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"english-as-an-additional-language\">English as an Additional Language&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/decyp.dev.ionata.com\/zh\/learning\/supporting-student-need\/english-additional-language\/\">English as an additional language (EAL)<\/a>\u202fteam works with schools to:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>strengthen teaching and learning practices for English language learners&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ensure all English language learners have the opportunities to engage in learning&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>establish links between home and school for EAL students and families&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>support the health and wellbeing of all EAL students by:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>fostering cultural responsiveness amongst staff, students and the school community.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"lgbtiq-students\"><strong>LGBTIQ+ Students<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Working it Out<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working it Out helps create safe and inclusive environments for LGBTIQ+ students, staff and families. Funded by the Department, Working it Out works with schools, teachers, and families.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.workingitout.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/VDF-Brochure-Working-It-Out.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Valuing Diversity Framework (PDF, 1350KB)<\/a>&nbsp;works towards reducing stigma and creating inclusion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our services for education, care and protection are working together to ensure all children and young people are known, safe, well and learning.
