The safety of children and young people is a priority for the Tasmanian Government, and we are committed to improving safety and wellbeing for those who are vulnerable and most at risk. As well as supporting those who care for them.
The Standards are an important step towards developing a Tasmanian Out of Home Care (OOHC) Accreditation Framework and Carers Register, which will help to safeguard children and young people in OOHC.
The Standards recognise the important role of Out of Home Care (OOHC) providers and carers and assists them to assess their current service delivery.
The Standards include a self-assessment tool. This tool helps providers to identify areas of good practice and areas for improvement. Helping OOHC providers to build capacity and readiness until such time that a Tasmanian OOHC Accreditation Framework is in place.
Providers will not be formally monitored or audited against the Standards until a Tasmanian OOHC Accreditation Framework is in place.
